7/31/2023 0 Comments Bluesun hotel maestral brela![]() It’s ridiculous given the space available and the actual space used. Why the restaurant is quite laid out in the way it is, I have no idea. Get to the restaurant quickly when dinner service opens at 7pm and join the carnage which is a kind of queuing system to grab the food you want as, in some cases (particularly the main meat offering and the desserts), once it’s gone it’s gone and is not replenished. The hotel food is repetitive and not 5* standard. The hotel has many steps (did I mention 109 to the beach? 39 to the pool!) and the area is mountainous, so please be aware of that. There are two lovely pools at the hotel, but inflatables for children are not permitted (well, sometimes they are and sometimes they aren’t - no consistency enforced). The two areas are quite different and both are worth a visit. If you exit the hotel from the back (walk down the 109 steps to the beach), turning left takes you to Baska Voda and turning right takes you to Brela. ![]() The area is absolutely beautiful stunning in fact. Service is all very quietly efficient and almost corporate in its feel this might be the vibe they’re going for, but then I would suggest they stop promoting it as a holiday venue. With one notable exception, there is no effort by any member of staff to create a memorable holiday for guests. ![]() Well, this is a funny place and, unfortunately, I’ve never been somewhere quite so lacking in atmosphere. ![]() That said, this is definitely a hotel I’d be happy to recommend to friends who want a quiet, relaxing break. That was fine for the bars and restaurants but the bedrooms needed a/c at night - we got very hot - and I think the hotel should remember that many of their guests are from northern countries not used to the heat. Be aware that this hotel has lots of steps so probably isn’t the place for people with mobility problems, but for us, having eaten far too much at the buffets, they were very useful for getting some much needed exercise! Our one complaint was that although the rooms are advertised as being air conditioned, they weren’t and it wouldn’t be going on until the temperature reached the mid twenties. The beach below the hotel is stony but delightful and so pretty. Both places have a good selection of bars and eateries. The location is good, right on the promenade that gives you an easy walk to Brela in one direction and Baska Voda the other way. The breakfast and dinner buffets are fabulous, with so much choice and always delicious. It was a shame about the reception staff though who could barely crack a smile and weren’t overly helpful. so friendly, efficient and helpful, they’re a real asset. The clientele was made up of Germans, Hungarians and a few Brits, and the majority were of retirement age and I can understand why, given how peaceful it is. It has has a very relaxed, low key vibe - no music by the pool etc, which made for a very relaxing stay. What a lovely hotel, not five star but certainly a good four star.
